    Description

    RARE MUSEUM QUALITY ART NOUVEAU LOETZ CARNEOL MARMORIERTES GLASS VASE URN COMPOTE ORMOLU GILT BRASS BRONZE METAL MOUNT
    THIS IS AN EXCEPTIONAL AND VERY RARE PIECE OF EARLY LOETZ ARTWORK.
    * NOTE: THE BOWL IS SLIGHTLY TILTED, AT THE NECK OF THE STEM.
    THIS URN / VASE BY LOETZ MEASURES APPROX. 6.75-7" HIGH, X 6.50" ACROSS AT THE HANDLES, X 4" SQUARE AT THE BASE. THE BOWL IS APPROX. 6" ACROSS.
    IT DATES FROM 1888.
    THE GLASS, KNOWN AS CARNEOL, IS PATTERNED IN A MARMORIERTES / MARBLED STYLE, IN PINK, RED, AND WHITE COLORS, IMITATING CARNELIAN STONE.
    I CAN FIND NO CHIPS, CRACKS OR DAMAGE TO THE GLASS.
    IT IS IDENTIFIED AT LOETZ.COM, (SEE "DECORS INDEX A-Z" AND SCROLL DOWN TO "CARNEOL", WHERE YOU WILL SEE THIS MODEL.)
    THE GLASS BOWL / INSERT IS MOUNTED ON A GILT METAL (BRONZE ?) BASE, TOPPED WITH A CONCAVE COLLAR AND 2 ORNATE SCROLLED HANDLES. THE PATINA IS A 130+ YEARS OF WARM, ANTIQUED GOLD, AND STILL RETAINS BRIGHTNESS AND SHIMMER.
    THE METALWORK IS REPOUSSÉ, THROUGH EMBOSSING, CHASING, OR BOTH (ONE BEING WORKED FROM BEHIND THE METAL, THE OTHER BEING WORKED FROM THE FRONT).
    IT IS DECORATED, FROM STEM TO STERN, WITH DELICATE, DETAILED AND PERFECTLY DISTANCED LINES, FROM THE TINY SCROLLS AND DENTIL BORDERS ON THE PLINTH / BASE, TO THE STEM AND COLLAR EMBOSSED IN PERFECTLY MEASURED, FLUTED, FAN LIKE 'BLADES'.
    THE WORKMANSHIP ON THE METAL / BRONZE IS EXCEPTIONAL. COMBINED WITH THE REMARKABLE ARTISTRY OF THE GLASS, I CONSIDER IT MUSEUM QUALITY...EVEN WITH A SLIGHT TILT. SIMILAR EXAMPLES ARE DISPLAYED AT THE GLASMUSEUM PASSAU IN GERMANY.
    THANKFULLY, IT HAS SURVIVED 130+ YEARS, INTACT, BUT NOT WITHOUT A BIT OF BENDING AT THE HANDLES AND AT THE STEM, JUST UNDER THE BOWL.
    I HAVE LEFT IT AS I FOUND IT, AS IT DISPLAYS BEAUTIFULLY, AND I WOULD NEVER RISK BREAKING THE GLASS IN AN EFFORT TO 'UNTILT' THE BOWL A LITTLE, OR ADJUST HANDLES.
    THIS WILL BE DOUBLE BOXED AND PACKED WITH GREAT CARE, PROPER INSULATION AND FULLY INSURED.
    * PAYMENT IS REQUIRED WITHIN 3 DAYS OF PURCHASE/END OF AUCTION.
    * I ACCEPT PAYPAL ONLY.
